Nature Mandalas

Natural Mandala as part of a Montessori activity
Montessori activity with mandalas at Wildflower School

Nature Mandalas

Materials Needed:

-items gathered from nature (pine cones, dandelions, rocks, pine needles, acorns, blades of grass, etc)

1. Go outside and gather materials that you can find!

2. Talk about what a mandala is-- a mandala is a circular structure with a design that radiates out symmetrically from the center. You can find natural mandalas in flowers, tree rings, the sun, eyes, snowflakes, spider webs, seashells, seeds, fruits and more.

3. Create your own beautiful pattern made from objects that you have found!

Other options:

-If you are not able to go outside easily, what else could you make a mandala out of? Items from around the house?

Could you make a mandala collage out of shapes cut from paper?

Could you draw a geometric pattern with pencils or crayons?
